drunken monkey and pirates of the caribbean

Posted in movies by Administrator on the May 28th, 2007

The monkey is sober.  Maybe. However Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is obviously on something a little stronger than rum. His multiple doppelgangers and amusing attempt to drag the Black Pearl across the moving white sands of Davy Jones’ Locker are a bit surreal.

Sending Captain Sparrow, pirate ships and a curious collection of crew-members plummeting over the edge, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, entertains audiences with elaborate scenery, rapier wit and wielding, and a few unique surprises, not the least of which is Keith Richards as Captain Teague, Jack Sparrow’s father.

The Kraken gets indigestion and its just reward for swallowing Captain Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest(2006). Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) is crowned Pirate King. That’s right, King not Queen. And Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) literally loses his heart to Elizabeth.

Depp is delightful as the dainty debonaire pirate, Bloom blossoms in his role, and Chow Yun-Fat is frightening as Feng. Geoffrey Rush as Hector Barbossa and Tom Hollander as Lord Cutler Beckett give extraordinary  performances. The soaring musical score by Hans Zimmer is definitely Oscar worthy.

Be prepared to laugh out loud and clap and cheer at the end. Despite holding your bladder for three hours don’t rush out of the theatre during the credits. There is another surprise after the extremely long list of names of brilliant people that participated in the making of the most intense, intellectual, and entertaining of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies so far. It’s certainly not going to be the last.

drunken writers

Posted in writing by Administrator on the May 26th, 2007

I’m at a party with a bunch of horny drunken writers, that keep flicking me in the face to make sure I’m not too drunk to drive- think they want me to leave?  Any way drunk writers and insurance auditors in the same room, makes for an unusual combination. Great fun.

We’re going to the drunken monkey movie later this evening.  That’s the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie to the rest of the world.

Now they are pinching me.

How do you spell Awwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!

Not in the good way either.

There is a woman here that would rather go watch some fight than Johnny Depp.  Sick, sick, sick.

We have to stop drinking soon or we’ll have to go pee during the movie.  I’ll let you know if it was any good later.  Although it doesn’t really matter.  Three hours of Johnny Depp is worth the eight bucks any day. Worth more if it shows his naked arse!

later,

aftermath

Posted in writing by Administrator on the May 8th, 2007

Just wanted to say how excited I was to see so many new attendees at this years OWFI conference.  I apologize for not getting around to meeting each of you.  Unfortunately, I was sick most of the weekend and spent more time in my room sleeping than out greeting and meeting people.

Usually I’m the meet and greet Queen.  So if you were there, whether I met you or not, please email me, let me know you were there and what you thought of the conference.  Hope you had a great time.  I did, in spite of how bad I felt.  Hope to see you there next May.

I plan to attend Sooner Con in June, and OCW in October.  If anyone is planning to be at either of those conferences let me know you’re going and be sure to say hi while we’re there.
